AnswerLab

Company Name

AnswerLab is a research company that focuses on collecting and analyzing user experience data for the likes of ESPN, Adobe and Intuit.

AnswerLab was co-founded by Dan Clifford and Amy Buckner, who saw the growth in high-speed internet connections, mobile adoption and overall comfort with using the web.   They saw a need in the marketplace for a user experience research company that helped clients provide the best possible experience for their online and mobile customers.

Since its founding in 2004 AnswerLab has grown to 19 employees and developed an impressive portfolio including Microsoft, LinkedIn and Honda.

Dan Clifford attributes AnswerLab’s strong portfolio to their ability to react quickly to the clients needs in a recent interview by 37Signals:

We can quickly pull together a group brainstorm and turn decisions around on the spot. Our clients are moving quickly and we keep up with them. This is valuable to clients and a clear differentiator.

We reached out to AnswerLab after reading a blog post published by 37Signals a few weeks back. The post grabbed our attention because it provided a look inside how AnswerLab operates as a company and culture (and, to be honest, excited when we heard mention of a new office in this video).

AnswerLab’s move was in response to company growth as they moved from a 2,000 sq. ft. office to 8,000. As noted in the afore-mentioned video they are fans of open workspaces and since have knocked down a few walls to open up the new office space.

There are several open collaboration areas, private research rooms and an office kitchen overlooking downtown San Fransisco. Since the office is in downtown, employees regularly use public transportation, ride bikes or take advantage of the Zip Car lot next door with the corporate account (regularly used for getting to client meetings).

Some office perks include fresh fruit delivery, sponsored gym membership and tech benefits:

Tech benefit enables employees to explore and use new technologies at AnswerLab’s expense.  Employees are reimbursed up to the benefit limit for purchases of hardware/software and/or web services.  In return, we ask that they share their experiences with the team. – Tanya Bashaw
