Etsy is a social eCommerce website that specializes in handmade goods produced and sold by its users. With over 5 million users Etsy has created a vibrant community that is paralleled in their Brooklyn office location.

Etsy was founded in 2005 by Rob Kalin who saw a void for the sale of homemade goods, a home for one of a kind creations. Since its launch Etsy has seen tremendous growth with over 400,000 sellers, 5.2 million users and in 2009 had $180.6 million in sales.

One of the unique ideas Etsy has put forth are Etsy Labs, workshops around the country that provide users the tools and instruction for creating something for the site. This has created a physical hub where users can gather and create, as well as introduce new users to the community.

Here is a brief video covering the history of Etsy and its culture:

The Etsy headquarters looks exactly as one would picture it, covered in spare craft supplies and decorated with many personal creations. There are rooms of supplies and hardware alongside an office space for monitoring the site itself. Check out more shots of the office below!
