Zurb is a design company found just outside of San Jose, California with a unique atmosphere. Focusing on design rather than being pigeonholed within a niche, Zurb has helped over 75 start ups as well as working for high profile clients such as Facebook, Photobucket, Britney Spears, Zazzle, NYSE and eBay.

Zurb is a team of ten (plus a couple interns) that maintains a unique work environment. For example, if you call their offices you are met with the following directory message:

…thank you for calling zurb, we’re proud that you’ve taken the first step to world domination by calling us, to speak with a zurbian press one, if you know your parties extension enter it now, if you don’t know it feel free to guess randomly…

One of the more unique things Zurb does is called ZURBwired where the group has a 24 hour design marathon for a nonprofit organization. This past year they helped a program known as Pie Ranch :

…24 straight hours to help Pie Ranch meet their goal of creating a “Reach for the Pie” campaign to establish an education center and “Dinner with Adelaide,” a summer farm fundraiser dinner.

The office space has several meeting rooms with a running theme of colors and nicknames such as the Lions Den and Bat Cave. Although there are several rooms, glass walls and frequent team meetings make for a more unified work place.

Hardware of choice appears to be Apple related products with most of the workers using Mac laptops and a few Apple Cinema Displays and Aeron chairs for around the office. Nearly every room is fit with one or more whiteboards for open brainstorming as well as for the work spaces.
